What is opiates?
Opiates, sometimes referred to as narcotics, are a group of drugs used medically to relieve pain, but also are very susceptible to abuse. This group of drugs includes opium, morphine, heroin and codeine.
Opium appears as dark brown solids in powder form and is usually smoked or swallowed. Heroin can be a drab brown or white powder that dissolves in water and then usually injected. Other opiates come in different forms, including capsules, tablets, syrups, solutions and suppositories.
Effects, addiction and dangers:
Opiates tend to relax to those who consume. Other initial and unpleasant effects include those of discomfort, nausea and vomiting. A person subject to the effects of opioids may experience an intermittent state of alertness and sleepiness.
